Don’t take your mental health for granted

When you are preparing yourself to study abroad, one of the things you have to do is to take proficiency tests like IELTS and TOEFL. For the last year I’ve been studying and doing such tests (first IELTS and then TOEFL) and now I can finally say that I have succeeded on both.

It may seem that I’ve sundely became one of those people who acomplish something and then talks about it in social media, but I’m not trying to bragg. My main pourpouse is to alert about something that I’ve been neglecting.

In both times I studied and practiced a lot but I almost failed because of something that I could prevent but I never even considerated: the psychological side of this exams.

Yes, studying is important. Yes, It’s essential do do quizzes, simulated exams and keep improving. But let’s not forget about our menthal healh. Let’s keep in mind that we have to give our emotional, psychological, and social well-being the same preparation we do to our technical skills.

Talk to a psychologist, meditate or even talk to a friend if you think it can trully help you. Let’s take care of ourselves first and then we will be really able to accomplish what we are trying to do.

But if everything fails, take a moment to follow this powerful advice from Mr. Miyagi:

“Don’t forget to breathe. Very important.”
